Today the world lost a great woman

Today has been a sad day for me.  My ex mother in law  went to be with the Lord this morning a little after 8:00am.  She had been battling colen cancer.  Although  she was my ex mother in law  didn't make a difference.  I had knew Ella Mae  for 40 years  and she was the grandmother to my 3 sons.

She was a great christian woman and was one of the kindest people you would ever meet.  I met her when I was 12 when she and her husband  and children  decided to start coming to our church. She was the kind of person who would have given you the shirt off of her back.  And she always  wanted you to eat.  Great cook  and very loving mother, grandmother  and mother in law.  She will be so missed  by so many people. but I know  she has been reunited with her husband, sister, brother  and lots of other family and loved ones including my daddy.

First White Christmas since the 60's

It has been decades since we had a white Christmas here in NC.  It has been snowing all over the state.  I now here in the triad we got between 5 and 6 inches  and more towards our mountains  and believe it or not even more near our beaches.

So now the rush begins

So much to do in the next couple of days,
the grandson's are comming today  and I am taking them to Borders for books and hot chocolate,
then cakes to bake  and carmel corn to make.  A couple more trips to the grocery store.
A Christmas party tomorrow night  with family and then home to snuggle with hubby and watch a Christmas Story with  yes more hot chocolate.

Then on Christmas day  a ham to bake  and red velvet cake
and by evening they say  the snow will be falling

So  wishing you all a very Merry CHRISTmas

Let's keep Christ in Christmas

I remember growing up in our home it was always Christmas. So one day  I saw that someone had taken Christ out  and put in an x.  I was confused  so I went and ask my mom  what does that mean  why did someone use an x instead of Christ.  She told me  that they had taken Christ out of Christmas.  Well that has stayed with me  thorough out the years  and have found it really bothers me  to  see Christmas spelled  that way.  Is it because  people are in a hurry  and don't take time to write Christmas.

And Happy Holiday  well that dosen't work fo me either,  it is Merry Christmas  and if you tell me Happy Holiday  I am going to say back Merry Christmas.   And I have a Christmas Tree  not a holiday tree.  How sad  that we have became a nation  that feels like that if you tell someone Merry Christmas  you might offend them.  I will say Merry Christmas  till the day I die  and you will NEVER see me take Christ out of Christmas
after all  He is the reason for the season

A Christmas tree by Gavyn

Yesterday  with it being so cold here in NC  after lunch I decided to pull out some goodies for Gavyn and I to work on.  We did a festive Christmas tree  and he thought it was so much fun especially  the glitter.  We then put together a little wooden bird house that was in a kit, now it is still a work in progress and when it is finished I will post a picture.

Another cheese ball recipe: I have to make this one every year according to my neice and it gets crushed

1 small can of ham spread (not potted meat or deviled ham unless thats what you want)
1 package of cream cheese
1package of hidden valley ranch dressing in the packet not bottle
parsley

Let your cream cheese soften,  add the ham spread  and the dressing.  Mix well
form into a ball on a plate  and cover in parsley
let chill and serve  so simple and so good

I will not let Christmas beat me this year

I know  that in the past I have let Christmas beat me down.  Through stress  and exhaustion.  It was a non stop rush  that left me with migraines, lots of stress  and by the time Christmas came I was to tired to enjoy things.  Well I made the decission  that I wasn't going to let that happen  and so a new tradition is born.

My family loves to eat, so with that in mind  I am doing the gift of food.  I am baking everyone cakes this year  so when they get up Christmas they will have a cake made by me to enjoy for Christmas day. I have 7 to make and really looking forward to it.

Cheese Party !  this year I decided that since we are cheese nuts (don't think I have ever met a Cheddar I didn't like  even the sharpest)  and my hubby and kids agree  so we are going to have a cheese party, all different kinds, with a variety of crackers and bread.  Followed with hot chocolate or coffee  and of course cheese cake

When my boys were little  they loved  the cheese ball I always made  so here is how simple it is and yes it will be at the party
ingredients:

cheddar spread
cream cheese
blue cheese
1tsp garlic salt
1 T Worcester sauce
crushed pecans
parsley (optional)

Let you cheeses come to room temperature. In a mixing bowl mix  the cheeses  and the garlic salt and Worcesters sauce.  blend well.  Form into a ball on a plate and then cover with pecans and parsley.
put in the fridge  to firm back up  and then serve with crackers or bread

It is better to give than to recieve

The other day I was doing some cleaning  and discovered I had lot's of change in my pocketbooks I had not carried in a while.  About 6.00 worth.  Well I got to thinking that perhaps I should put all that change  in the Salvation Army kettle.  So I figure if  alot of people did that  thhink of the moeny that could be raised to help others.  So dig around  and see what you can find  and make that donation . No matter how small  it all adds up in the end  and relly it is the season for giving.

Craigs List-- Through the years I have found i have lots of Christmas decorations  as you know we usually make or buy some every year.  So if I am not using all of them I decided to share.  I put a free listing on craigs list  and gave them to someone who needed them so they could decorate for Christmas  I am sure if you dig around  you will find that you have some extra's too  so share the extra's

Try  and buy 1 toy and donate no matter how small you might think it is  come Christmas morning a child is going to smile

Now from me to you  Some Christmas gift tags.  Just save the picture and print and use on your gifts
remember to click on it first to make it larger
